"O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous" (Al-Quran 2:183). Our beloved Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah ﷻ is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah ﷻ will not accept his fasting)" ~ Bukhari.
